Education essay proposal

Education is usually and normally associated with childhood. Stop some one in the street and ask him how you think of education, believe me , they will reply in terms of schools or schooling for children. Then, you go and read some books on the concept or theory of education, the majority of them will tell you it refers to the education of children. In fact, much education is indeed all about bringing up and teaching young people. However, it is necessary to reconsider the concept of education, what sort of elements in an ideal education in today’s world although the concept of education has already been assumed to relate to children upbringing. It is acknowledged, however, that the concept of education has changed in recent years. Education is a process of teaching and learning instead of just educating children. It would be possible to consider in this way that an ideal education is a dialogue between teachers and learners and this conception may also be understood in which the teacher externalizing and the learner internalizing exit simultaneously. Different education system may have great impact on the concept of ideal education. To endeavor to provide sufficient information about the key elements in an ideal education, introduction and explanation of the education system is a must. Therefore, in the following articles, I may introduce the education system both in Australia and China and the difference between those two systems will be presented afterwards. As such, the dramatic change process of education is undoubtedly far from over and coming years we can also see further substantial changes. Hence, a brief illustration of the current concept ideal education is performed along with a general conclusion is drawn at the end of this article.

I.                   Education system in Australia

Australia has a well-developed education system with the secondary school completion rates among the highest in the world. Education in Australia earns great reputation and attracts a large number of overseas learners to come to study in Australia. Huge funding will also be spent on education by the Australian government every year to guarantee teaching facilities, welfares of teachers and quality of teaching. In secondary education in Australia, normally students take five or six subjects per semester. The assessment of performance includes class participation, group discussion , project planning and discussion, experimentation and individual assignment rather than memory tests. Secondary education, especially senior secondary education is crucially important to students. This is a key preparation for the future study, employment and adult life of the students. In class, students are encouraged to actively participate in the discussion with classmates or teachers. This is a good sign of combination between teaching and learning. After class, students are encouraged to explore their interests by using project discussion or individual assignment or attending other special programs that may suit each student. After completing the secondary education, some students may seek a higher education such as TAFE or university. With the good teaching and educating method, students in Australia tend to have more bonding and sharing with their teachers in class. Last October, I attended a seminar in the university. The seminar is held by an Aussie PHD student discussing security problem of the world. All the participants in the seminar are from Australia except  4 come from China. In the process of discussion, I can see the difference of education in China and Australia. All the Aussie students actively participated in the discussion while the four of us were just sitting there quietly and silently. Apparently, teachers could not know whether his or her students understand or not if students do not give a feedback. Ideal education should include teaching and learning at the same time.

II.                Education system in China

China is a great nation. However, it has deficiency in areas of science, technology, economy and culture. According to my search, there are 10,000 kinds of microchips in the world at the moment, but only 300 are produced in China. What is the reason? Most learners and students in China seem pretty busy all the time. What are they busy with anyway? I think this has something to do with our education system. In China, the only assessment for students is credit of exam. Students are busy with the textbooks all day for the content of the textbook is all about the so-called education and is all about the content of exam. The target of assessment is to evaluate how much a student has understood the context by memory. The more the student can memorize from the textbook, the better he can do in the exam, the higher score he can get, which also means a better university he can enter or a more promising career he can start with. Hence, all students, especially good student in China go over their textbook over and over and over again. By doing this, how can we expect our students can become a person with creativity, individual thought and ability to solve problem independently. That is negative for sure. What we can see is students only with skills of imitation and copy. In class, teachers like those students who love reviewing textbooks. In teachers’ eyes, those students are good kids, those students are good to society and country. Sadly but it is true, this is the spirit of the education system in China.

III.             Difference of education system between China and Australia

China has spoon-feeding education system while Australia employs the heuristic method of teaching. In China, the main way of assessment is monomial module, which means student can obtain an excellent score by memorizing the key point even without listening to their teacher in class, not to mention using their brains to analyze the knowledge or data. As such, the outcome is really obvious under such education system, students are easily to become robots without creativity, energy and individual thinking.

What is the situation in Australia? Lets have a look. The education system in Australia also requires students to understand and memorize the key point of the knowledge, but it is far from that. The spirit of the education system in Australia is to encourage students use their imagination and creativity in class to cooperate with teachers, follow the guide of the teachers to analyze the question raised in class. That’s the ideal education, that’s learning and teaching, that’s the heuristic method of teaching. In the final assessment, there is no such thing called standard answer to any of question, what the student should do is use their mind, their understanding and their awareness which can be absorbed in class by actively participating in the teaching of teachers. Only such students who have quality of individual thinking, creative minds and mastering the method of education can become the main force to continuously promote the innovation of the society and technology.

IV.              Key elements of an ideal education

After comparing the difference of education in China and Australia, I believe the combination of teaching and learning are the key elements of an ideal education. Cooperatively learning and teaching are the strategy in which teachers and students work together as a group to accomplish the task of the education. This strategy is an ideal educational method that helps students and teachers to develop the cooperative skills that are essential for the success in our fast-changing world today. The positive benefit for this strategy is it can create opportunities of a face-to-face interaction in which students and teachers can actively involve in discussing and collaborating. Secondly, it can also create individual accountability and group processing which teachers can be able to take full responsibility for helping students to learn as well as knowing how well their students have achieved.

V.                 Conclusion

To sum up, this article began by stating the traditional concept of education that would be applicable to any fields related to children. And then, the question of what an ideal education is was raised showing the map that teaching and learning are the key elements of an ideal education. This was shown by describing the situation of education in China and Australia respectively which follows by comparison and contrast of the two different education systems. Finally, the article discussed in order to clarity the phenomenon of an ideal education which are related to elements of teaching and learning. It is now clear that the concept of an ideal education surrounding the world has been apparent although the concept is changing and exploration in greater depth should be needed.

下班到家,还心里盘算着 when is the fucking due date for the fucking assigment..
